Six parliamentarians from the 5 Star Movement presented a parliamentary question to the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, after the declaration of ineligibility of the mayor of Tropea, Giovanni Macrì, pronounced by the Court of Vibo Valentia. The initiative bears the signature of Stefania Ascari, Federico Cafiero De Raho, Michele Gubitosa, Anna Laura Orrico, Riccardo Tucci and Vittoria Baldino, some of whom are members of the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission.

The requests addressed to the minister

In the question, the parliamentarians ask the owner of the Interior Ministry what initiatives he intends to take to ensure that the administrative activity of the Municipality of Tropea is carried out in full compliance with the principles of legality, impartiality and good performance, preventing any possible form of conditioning or criminal infiltration.

The M5S representatives also ask to know whether the minister considers the appointment as councilors of subjects included by the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission in the list of “unpresentables” compatible with the purposes of the anti-mafia legislation and whether he intends to activate specific monitoring initiatives on the activity of the Municipality of Tropea.

The reference to the new council

Macrì, re-elected in the local elections of 24 and 25 May, appointed Greta Trecate and Caterina Marzolo as councilors, both included in the list of “unpresentables” prepared by the Anti-Mafia Commission.

According to the questioning parliamentarians, the presence in the municipal council of administrators already declared “unpresentable” by the parliamentary anti-mafia commission, combined with the decision of the Court of Vibo Valentia which declared the mayor ineligible for two electoral rounds, risks fueling “serious institutional and social alarm”, especially in light of the recent dissolution of the municipality due to mafia infiltration ordered in April 2024.
