The Municipality of Tropea, implementing the decision of the Ministry of the Interior and the Prefecture of Vibo Valentia, has removed two municipal managers and appointed the new president of the company “Porto di Tropea spa”. The decision comes following the dissolution of the elected bodies of the Municipality of Tropea due to mafia infiltration – led until the dissolution by the mayor Giovanni Macrì (Forza Italia) – which led to the current management of the Municipality by a commissioner trio. Engineer Pasquale Barbuto was appointed to replace manager Gabriele Crisafio (Territorial Government), while engineer Vito Mancino was appointed to replace public works manager Sisto Scordo. Sisto Scordo’s father – Pasquale Scordo – is currently on trial for external competition in mafia association before the Court of Vibo as part of the maxi-operation Olimpo of the Catanzaro DDA. Antonello Gentile was appointed as president of the board of directors of the company «Porto di Tropea spa», replacing the lawyer Sandro D’Agostino, the latter appointed in 2018 by the mayor Giovanni Macrì. The elective bodies of the Municipality of Tropea were dissolved on April 23 by the Council of Ministers for «relevant, univocal and concordant» elements regarding the mafia conditioning on the political and administrative bodies of the institution.
