A new environmental emergency threatens the Tropea coast. Near the former abandoned purifier, along a free and frequented free beach, it was reported a spill of foul -smelling liquids, presumably of a sewage nature, which generated a stagnant pool a few meters from the sea. To report the incident is Antonio Pisàformer city councilor and for years engaged on the area of the environmental and health protection of the territory.
The episode, documented with precise geographical coordinates (15 ° 53’14.22 “and – 38 ° 40’26.30” N), although at the moment does not directly involve the sea waters, represents – according to Pisà – a concrete danger to public health and a serious damage to the image for a symbolic location of Calabrian and national tourism.
“The situation is very serious-said Pisà-because it compromises not only the health of the marine-costiero environment, but also represents a real risk to public health, especially in a period of strong tourist turnout. We cannot allow Tropea to be disfigured in general silence”.
Following the report, Pisà presented a formal complaint addressed to the extraordinary commissioners of the Municipality of Tropea, the Public Prosecutor of the Republic of Vibo Valentia and the Arpacal – Provincial Department. The advanced requests are clear and punctual: ascertain the nature and origin of the spill, urgently reclaim the area, identify any responsibilities and activate structural measures to prevent the repetition of similar episodes.
“The beauties of Tropea cannot be left to improvisation or, worse, to indifference,” added the former councilor. “We need quick, transparent and rigorous intervention by those who have the institutional duty to protect this territory”.
Finally, Pisà made an appeal to citizenship and institutions to activate compactly and decisively:
“Defending Tropea is a collective duty. I will continue to report, denounce and propose concrete solutions. But now it is time that the authorities act, with courage and without hesitation, in the interest of our land, our tourist economy and everyone’s health”.
