The line is drawn and the language is that of firmness. United States President Donald Trump is relaunching pressure on Iran and openly speaking of a decisive phase of the confrontation, between “almost completed” military objectives and the concrete possibility of new attacks in the coming weeks.
“Mission to complete quickly”
“We are on the verge of ending Iran’s threat to America,” Trump declared, inviting Americans to consider the war an “investment” in the future of their children.
The president then underlined how the strategic objectives are now close to being achieved: «We must complete the mission. And we will do it quickly.”
Threat of new attacks
Trump indicated a possible short-term development, speaking of imminent military action in the absence of a diplomatic agreement: «We are on track to complete our military objectives. In the next two-three weeks we will strike Iran forcefully.”
At the same time, he reiterated that negotiations remain open, but with a clear warning: without an agreement, the United States is ready to intervene also on Iranian energy plants.
The hub of the Strait of Hormuz
Finally, the American president addressed the issue of energy routes, downplaying the impact for Washington: “We don’t import oil through the Strait of Hormuz, we don’t need it.”
A step accompanied by a jab at the countries that depend on that strategic corridor, invited to manage supplies independently, while – Trump assured – at the end of the conflict the Strait “will reopen naturally”.
