Donald Trump’s ambitions do not stop at Venezuela. “We absolutely need Greenland,” the US president said, describing the island – part of NATO member Denmark – as “surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships”.
The American podcaster Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, one of Donald Trump’s closest collaborators in the White House, after the US operation in Venezuela had published an image of Greenland covered by the US flag on her X profile, with the comment: “Soon Greenland!”, arousing the reaction of the Danish authorities. In particular, the Danish ambassador to Washington, Jesper Moller Sorensen, responded – in turn on X – reiterating: “We expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark.” With the USA «We are close allies and we should continue to work together as such. The security of the United States is also the security of Greenland and Denmark. Greenland is already part of NATO. “The Kingdom of Denmark and the United States are working together to ensure security in the Arctic,” he wrote, highlighting recent military investments in the region: “The Kingdom of Denmark has significantly stepped up its efforts on security in the Arctic: in 2025 alone we have allocated $13.7 billion for use in the Arctic and the North Atlantic. Because we take our common security seriously.” Then he added: “And yes, we expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark.”
The Danish Prime Minister: “Enough threats from the USA”
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen urged the United States to “end threats against a historic ally.” Copenhagen’s position comes after Donald Trump reiterated that Greenland “is necessary” to the US for its national security. “I have to make this point clear to the United States: it is absolutely absurd to say that the US should take control of Greenland,” he added, speaking of the autonomous territory under the Danish crown.
