Also this year the UOC of dermatology of the Aou Polyclinic “Gaetano Martino”directed by Prof. Fabrizio Guarneri, will participate in the initiative “Save your skin”scheduled for Saturday 24 May, from 9 to 13. On this occasion it will be possible to receive free consultations and visits; It is necessary to book via the dedicated call center, operational from May 5, 7 days a week, from 08.30 to 19.30, at 800 991126.
The initiative is promoted by SIDEMAST (Italian Society of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases) as part of the National Prevention Campaign and early diagnosis of melanomto. Melanoma is the third most frequent malignant tumor and the first for mortality in the dermatological field, as well as being one of the most serious tumors in an absolute sense, due to its high metastatization capacity. Its incidence is constantly growing, above all due to behavioral errors in sun exposure, lack of appropriate means of protection, use of artificial sources of ultraviolet radiation. However, early diagnosis and treatment can radically change the prognosis: melanomas of a thickness of less than 0.75 mm have today life expectancy at 10 years of age next to 100%. The information and prevention campaigns, together with the significant diagnostic progress, have shown considerable effectiveness over time in promoting the early identification of melanomas and are essential for progress towards a culture of risk reduction.
