In the municipality of Termini Imerese (Palermo), the first phase of the laying of the submarine cable of the East branch of the Tyrrhenian Link, one of the most relevant electrical infrastructures in the country, which will connect Sicily and Campania, was launched in Fiumetorto.

He says Triad By explaining that the project, which also includes the west branch between Sicily and Sardinia, provides for a total investment of about 3.7 billion euros by the company led by Giuseppina di Foggia. The work plays a crucial role in the path of decarbonisation provided by the integrated national plan for energy and climate (PNIEC), increasing the transport capacity and promoting the energy transition. In addition, it will help improve the safety, adequacy and flexibility of the national transmission electricity grid, explains Terna. The Tyrrhenian Link involves the creation of two underwater electrical lines in continuous current at 500 kV, for a total of 970 km of cable and a transport capacity of 1,000 MW for each route.

As evidence of the partnership between two Italian companies of excellence, the production and laying of the submarine cable along the Termini Imerese -Battipaglia TERM, carried out with the Leonardo da Vinci ship, are entrusted to Prysmian, a global leader in the cable systems sector for the ‘Energy and telecommunications, which in 2021 was awarded the framework contract for the design, supply, installation and testing of over 1,500 km of cables, produced at the Prysmian plant in Arco Felice (NA). For Prysmian, but also for the entire sector, it is a record installation: for the first time a HVDC cable will be laid at 2,150 meters deep, setting new market standards. The east branch of the project, which benefits from a financing of 500 million euros as part of the Repoweru chapter approved by the European Council in December 2023, was authorized by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Safety at the end of 2022.
