Donald Trump has warned of “very serious things” if Republicans lose the US midterm elections.

Trump’s “threat”.

During a rally in Iowa, where the US president kicked off a campaign trip in the shadow of the riots in Minneapolis, Trump said his party must win both the Senate and the House in November. “I’m here because I love Iowa, but I’m here because we’re starting the campaign to win the midterm elections. We need to win the mid-term elections,” declared the tycoon. “If we lose the midterm elections, you’re going to lose a lot of the things we’re talking about, a lot of the goods we’re talking about, a lot of the tax cuts we’re talking about, and that would lead to very serious things. Trump’s speech focused on the economy was largely overshadowed by what is happening in Minnesota, where two people died this month at the hands of ICE.
The White House says Trump will make weekly trips across the country ahead of the midterm elections, in which voters have historically punished U.S. presidents.

Democratic congresswoman sprayed with an unidentified substance during a rally in Minneapolis

Democratic US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was targeted during a speech last night by a man who sprayed her with an unidentified liquid with a syringe before being tackled by security guards. The man was led out of the premises while the congresswoman, a frequent target of attacks by President Donald Trump, continued her speech by saying “we will remain resilient in the face of whatever they can throw at us”.
The incident occurred during a rally in the US city of Minneapolis, where two US citizens were killed this month in a violent anti-immigration crackdown, sparking growing unrest. Moments earlier, Omar had stated in his speech that “Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) must be abolished once and for all, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem must resign or face prosecution.”
After the attack, the man was arrested by Mars escorts and taken away into police custody, according to a CNN team at the scene. After speaking with staff, Omar continued his town meeting. The deputy began her speech again by stating: “These people won’t get away with it.” The man accused of assaulting the Minnesota congresswoman has been identified as Anthony J. Kazmierczak, 55. A spokesperson for the Minneapolis Police Department confirmed this to CNN. Kazmierczak is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail.
