Vice President JD Vance’s trip to Islamabad was suspended after Tehran failed to respond to American negotiating positions. The New York Times reports this, citing some American sources, according to whom without an Iranian response the diplomatic process is effectively suspended, even if the trip has not been cancelled.
Vance, the White House confirmed, is involved in some additional meetings and for now is in Washington, where envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are also present. The plane that was supposed to take them to Islamabad via Europe this morning never left in that direction, but limited itself to taking them to Washington.
