It took four days, even less, for the men of the State Police, led by the police commissioner Rodolfo Ruperti, to identify the man who, on Friday morning, railed against a person, in the heart of the city centre, between Via Popilia and Piazza Martiri d’Unità, hitting him repeatedly with a baseball bat, even in delicate parts of the body.
The two contenders had already disappeared when the Volante arrived at the scene of the clash a few minutes later. The agents of the Flying Squad, after careful investigations, managed to reconstruct the story in its individual phases, identifying the perpetrator of the beating and the car in which he had driven away.
