On Saturday afternoon, at 5.30pm, the naming ceremony of a street after the lawyer Alfredo D’Agostino, former mayor of the city and leading figure in the local legal and institutional panorama, took place in Vibo Valentia.
The event, sober but heartfelt, saw the participation of numerous citizens, authorities and family members, testifying to the deep affection and esteem that the community continues to have towards the memory of D’Agostino. The ceremony was started by Mayor Enzo Romeo, who in his speech drew an intense portrait of the former mayor, underlining his human and professional qualities: “Alfredo D’Agostino embodied the role of the mayor in an exemplary manner, leaving an indelible memory. But he was also a jurist of great value, and for this reason the city could not fail to pay homage to him.”
The choice of the street to be named was not accidental: the former via Lacquari, now dedicated to D’Agostino, leads to the new court, seat of the Vibo Forum and symbolic place of justice, an area in which the former mayor left a significant mark.
Among those present, also his son Nicola D’Agostino, also former mayor of Vibo Valentia, visibly moved to thank the administrations that made the dedication possible. In his speech he recalled the importance of the teachings received from his father and the value of the toponymic choice, which links the name of Alfredo D’Agostino to an emblematic place for the city.
Other former mayors also took part in the ceremony, including Franco Sammarco and Elio Costa, confirming the central role that D’Agostino played in the administrative history of Vibo Valentia.
