A man of Moroccan origin was arrested in Vibo Valentia on charges of sexual violence, mistreatment in the family, injuries and extortion against his cohabiting partner.
The woman had asked for help last July after a dispute at home: he, drunk, grabbed her by the neck in front of her two children in an attempt to force her to have sexual intercourse. She then fled to call for help and, after treatment in hospital, was transferred with the children to a safe house.
Investigations revealed that it was not the first time. Already in 2021 the woman had reported him for violence, but then returned to live with him hoping for a change. Instead, the man resumed with threats, assaults, forced intercourse and requests for money, which he spent on himself without contributing to family expenses.
Considering the seriousness and continuity of the behaviors, the judge ordered custody in prison.
