“Today we don’t do the usual ribbon cutting without concrete content. Today we cut the ribbon to inaugurate an already operational headquarters, already rich in content and ideas, thanks also to the work put in place by the former mayor of the Municipalities of Vibo, Maria Limardo. I reiterate the importance of Regional marine parks and the Special Conservation Areas of the Natura 2000 Network, entrusted to the management of the Regional Marine Parks Authority (Epmr) under the guidance of Commissioner Raffaele Greco, which represent an indispensable asset of the naturalistic capital of Calabria, not only in terms of biodiversity and ecosystem services, but also as opportunities for sustainable development.
With the president Roberto Occhiuto and the regional council, with the general manager of the Environment department, Salvatore Siviglia, we reserve considerable importance and commitment to the environmental and tourism sectors which constitute a source of wealth for Calabria. Our work is aimed at creating an integrated offer of all the cultural and environmental resources of our region, to synergize environmental protection with the promotion of tourism and local cultural resources and to plan a tourist offer integrated that brings together sea and mountains.
To achieve these objectives as a regional administration we are finding important resources to invest in marine parks and in the entire environmental, naturalistic and tourist heritage sector, as well as in the human capital currently lacking, and also to communicate and promote a heritage that is increasingly attracting greater interest of tourists and visitors also coming from Northern Europe, the United States and Japan”.
This was stated by the Councilor for Environmental Protection of the Calabria Region, Giovanni Calabresespeaking at the inauguration ceremony of the “Parco Costa degli Dei” headquarters, at the Tonnara di Bivona, the new operational headquarters of the Regional Marine Parks Authority, which was attended, among others, by the mayor of Vibo Valentia, Enzo Romeo, the commissioner of the Regional Marine Parks Authority, Raffaele Greco, the general managers of the regional Environment and Tourism departments, Salvatore Siviglia and Maria Antonietta Cauteruccio, the vice president of the Zoological Station Anton Dohrn, Silvestro Greco, the Cial communications manager, Gennaro Galdo, the mayors of the municipalities of the marine parks and the SACs managed by the EPMR.
