On May 28, 2025, at 11.00, on the occasion of an extraordinary opening of the archaeological area of the Greek walls of Hipponion, via Paolo Orsi, the results of the excavation campaign 2025, conducted between March and April, will be presented to the public and press. The intervention, inserted within the Archeovibo project, was promoted and financed by the Superintendency of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria and the Province of Vibo Valentia, with the scientific involvement of the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations of the University of Messina, under the direction of prof. Fabrizio Mollo. The excavation activities were carried out by the students (Andrea Cordaro, Federico Cersosimo, Giulio Cambria Maisano, Roberta Moral) of the University of Messina, under the supervision of Dr. Valentina Casella and dr. Giuseppe Lucarelli.

The campaign involved a strategic sector of the Archaeological Park, allowing the identification of articulated wall sequences, and providing new chronological and stratigraphic data of great value for the reconstruction of the urban and defensive evolution of Hipponion. The results of the investigations will be illustrated directly on the archaeological site, with the participation of the Superintendent, Dr. Maria Mallemace, of the work team that led the project coordinated by the Head of the Procedure, dr. Michele Mazza, and by members of the team of the Department of ancient and modern civilizations of the University of Messina. The initiative, open to the public, represents a unique opportunity to visit the archaeological area and to get to know the work done on the field up close. This important collaboration between public bodies of protection and scientific research demonstrates how the knowledge, conservation and enhancement of the archaeological heritage are essential tools to promote the culture, training and identity of the territory.
