They were trying to disassemble and steal sections of guardrail along a section of the state road 738taking advantage of an area affected by road works, but the blow was foiled by the carabinieri of the company of Villa San Giovanni, engaged in a control service of the territory. The military noticed two individuals intent on loading numerous metal uprights just removed from the roadway on a truck. At the sight of the patrol, the two flew to flee, momentarily abandoning the area. The readiness of the carabinieri, however, allowed to write down the number of license plate of the vehicle, found a few hours later in a nearby service area. Inside the vehicle, a load of ferrous material was found, including mechanical parts of vehicles and the same steel elements as the guardrail, unequivocal proof of the attempted theft. Traced and identified, the two were reported in a state of freedom for aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods. All the recovered material has been seized, while further insights are still ongoing to verify its origin and precision quantify the extent of the damage. The operation demonstrates, once again, the effectiveness of the territory control device and the timeliness of intervention of the military of the weapon, also in apparently marginal contexts but potentially dangerous for the safety of circulation and the integrity of public infrastructures.
