The meeting in recent days between a delegation of mayors, led by the mayor of Cosenza Franz Caruso, and the managers of Sorical had revealed a first glimmer of hope in managing the water emergency. But the difficulties remain and, indeed, in the last few hours the tension has risen even more.
In the urban area of Cosenza the situation continues to be critical. Neighborhoods like Massa and Spirito Santo have been living for weeks – in some cases months – with dry taps or with such a low flow rate that it is impossible to regularly use water in homes. Residents report serious inconveniences in managing daily life, from simple personal hygiene to the needs of families with children and the elderly.

Already in recent days the inhabitants of Massa had publicly expressed their discontent, supported by the Fratelli Bandiera committee, represented by Remo Scigliano, and the Spirito Santo committee, led by Giannino Dodaro. But yesterday the protest took a leap forward: the citizens of the two neighborhoods set up a road block, paralyzing traffic in one of the main arteries of the area.
The mobilization created considerable traffic disruption (the police and municipal authorities were on site), with slowdowns and long queues, but the residents claimed the need for a strong gesture to attract the attention of the institutions. «We are now exhausted – they have repeated on several occasions -. We can no longer live without water.” A complaint that adds to the requests already made in recent weeks, when inconsistent management of flow rates and a situation deemed “no longer sustainable” was reported.
Although some openings and hypotheses for intervention have emerged from the comparison with Sorical, the definitive solution still seems far away. The Municipality, for its part, reiterated its commitment to monitoring the situation and urging a stable restoration of the service. But in the meantime the population is waiting for concrete answers, while tension in the neighborhoods continues to grow.
