Cosa Nostra from Barcelona and the 110% business, the Superbonus, a consolidated relationship. And after the first episode of the investigation in recent years, which had seen Mariano Foti as the central figure, we now have to record the procedural story of the second tranche of the investigation, which focused its attention on Foti’s son, Salvatore, on a frontman, Tindaro Pantè, and on a series of entrepreneurs from Barcelona, who are accused of complicity outside the mafia association.
Yesterday morning in Messina this investigation, which saw its conclusion in December 2024, came to the scrutiny of the preliminary hearing before the preliminary hearing judge Alessandra Di Fresco, for the definition of five summary judgments.
Mariano and Salvatore Foti, from Milazzo, father and son, are involved as defendants in this tranche; Fabio Gaipa, originally from Bern, Switzerland, and resident in Furnari; Tindaro Mario Ilacqua, originally from S. Lucia del Mela; Tindaro Pantè, from Barcelona.
The prosecutor’s requests, which are quite heavy, were formulated by the district anti-mafia prosecutor Antonella Fradà. Here they are: Salvatore Foti, 10 years in prison; Gaipa, 8 years old; Ilacqua, 15 years old, Pantè 15 years and 6 months; Mariano Foti, 4 years old.
It was the carabinieri of the investigative unit of the provincial command of Messina, last December, who carried out the precautionary order signed by the Messina investigating judge Simona Finocchiaro, after the investigation coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Vito Di Giorgio with the deputies of the District Anti-Mafia Fabrizio Monaco, Francesco Massara and Antonella Fradà.
Overall, there were eight initial suspects in the investigation: Mariano Calderone, from Milazzo; Salvatore and Mariano Foti; Fabio Gaipa; Tindaro Mario Ilacqua; Giuseppe Impallomeni, from Milazzo and resident in Barcelona; Fortunato Micalizzi, originally from Messina and resident in Nice; Tindaro Pantè and Giovanni Pantè, father and son, from Barcelona. And there were two restrictive precautionary measures decided by investigating judge Finocchiaro, with Salvatore Foti and Tindaro Pantè being detained in prison, while no restrictive measures were decided for all the others.
For both, Salvatore Foti and Tindaro Pantè, investigating judge Finocchiaro found the accusation of mafia-type association to exist, and for Pantè alone also the «fraudulent transfer of assets, aggravated by mafia purposes». At the same time, the Carabinieri also notified a warrant information against the other suspects, including some building contractors, with the hypothesis of the crime of external complicity in a mafia-type association.
