The countdown is over: the 2026 summer sales in Calabria and Sicily will officially start on Saturday 4 July. Although the start date is identical for both regions, commercial calendars and sales regulations will change dramatically soon after the launch, especially regarding the duration of discounts and promotion bans.

When do the 2026 summer sales start in Calabria and how long do they last

In Calabria, shopping at discounted prices will start on Saturday 4 July 2026. The overall duration of the end-of-season sales will be 60 days, with the final closure already set for 31 August 2026.

Attention to the blocking of promotions: The legislation of the Calabria Region categorically prohibits traders from carrying out promotional sales in the two weeks before the start date of the sales, to avoid “false discounts” ahead of time.

Sicilian consumers will also be able to start hunting for deals from Saturday 4 July 2026. In Sicily, however, the discount season will be decidedly more generous and long: the sales will last until 15 September 2026.

The calendar was protected by councilor’s decree no. 2763/1.S. Unlike their Calabrian colleagues, Sicilian traders enjoy total freedom: the region allows promotional sales at any time of the year, including the 30 days preceding the official start of July 4th.

Tips for avoiding scams during summer sales

To make safe purchases starting from July 4th, both in Calabria and Sicily, it is good to remember the three golden rules of the Consumer Code:

  • Price transparency: Shopkeepers have the obligation to clearly display the original price, the discount percentage and the final price.
  • Exchanges of goods: The exchange of defective items is required by law; replacement due to a change of mind (wrong size or colour) is at the discretion of the shopkeeper.
  • Electronic payments: Merchants are always required to accept credit and debit cards even during sales periods.
