All-round searches in the countryside: last Tuesday the helicopter of the 8th Carabinieri Unit flew over Briatico and its surroundings, while on land colleagues from the “Calabria” Squadron, supported by canine units, combed a vast rural area, advancing through dense vegetation and impervious terrain. An important deployment of forces, which fueled curiosity and assumptions among residents. And, despite the confidentiality of the investigative circles, the operation would have been focused on the search for a person. A fugitive, or a corpse. The activities, in fact, moved across 360 degrees, with particular attention to rural areas. Even though their mouths remain sealed, the echo that spreads tells of a search for human remains. And even if at the moment the inspections have not produced any findings, they reopen a page in which we try to write the final word, in a story that the provincial territory knows all too well. In fact, the Vibonese area holds a sad record: it is one of the main “triangles” of white lupara in Italy, the scene of murders whose bodies have not been found: dozens of people are still missing, missing from the 1990s to today, among cases linked to organized crime and events which may in any case have no connection with the ‘Ndrangheta.
