The official profiles on X and Telegram of Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s National Security Council, published a message attributed to him after Israel said it had hit and killed him in a night raid on Tehran.
The text released concerns the funeral ceremony of some soldiers of the Iranian Navy. “Their memory will forever remain in the hearts of the Iranian nation and these martyrs will form the foundations of the Islamic Republic Army for many years,” the note reads.
According to reports from Iranian state radio and television IRIB, the message was published “on the eve” of the funeral ceremony of the soldiers killed in the attack on the Iranian destroyer Dena, hit off the coast of Sri Lanka on March 4 in an action claimed by the United States.
Al Jazeera reports that the soldiers’ funeral is scheduled for today. However, the main issue remains: it is not yet clear whether the message was spread before the alleged raid or whether it is an element that casts doubt on Larijani’s death.
