The timba literally invaded and thrilled the Politeama Theatre: last night for the first of the weekend concerts “It’s Jazz time” of the XXI Autumn Festival – supported by the Calabria Region/Calabria Straordinaria, through the 2014/20 Pac funds; from the Chamber of Commerce of Catanzaro, Crotone and Vibo Valentia, from the Municipality of Catanzaro, as well as from various private bodies -, it was the volcanic Aymée Nuviola. The Cuban singer, who has been resident in the United States for years, presented her new Timba Jazz project in Catanzaro in the national premiere: a journey aboard Cuban salsa, the “jazzy” timba, made more intimate, but not for this reason less engaging and, above all, danceable.

The spectators of the Politeama know this well and last night they did not miss the opportunity to listen to the interpreter multiple Grammy award-winner– and in the running for the next Best Album with “Busco tu recuerdo” created together with Sammy Figueroa And Gonzalo Rubalcabaalready a guest of the Festival last year -, for the first time in our area, accompanied by an ensemble of exceptional musicians. Starting from Kemuel Roigparticularly talented pianist and producer, main guest of the project, with whom Nuviola has been collaborating for some time, passing through the Colombian guitarist Julian Avilafor the Venezuelan percussionist Jose Majito Aguileraending up with the other two Cubans in the lineup Samuel Borgos to the bass, e Mitchell Nonnato to the battery.

Aymée Nuviola’s concert, of an uncommon beauty and with the usual and surprising energy, continued with a streamlined, easy-listening set list that rattled off in crescendo: “Imágeners” and “Quédate”, to continue with the well-known “ Oye como va”, who had the task of warming up the audience in an escalation of pace, which made it increasingly difficult to remain seated in the armchair.
She, Nuviola, masterfully involved everyone present in the choruses and clapping in time – punctually wrong by the audience and a source of continuous laughter -, until the final collective dance which saw everyone standing, in a Politeama which was so joyful and festive it had never been seen. The song list focused, among others, on songs taken from the album “Havana Nocturne”, such as “El jamaiquino” and “Obsesiòn”, together with “Perfidia”, “That’s the way” and “Atrevimiento” which greeted the public.

Gladly, at the end of the evening, the artist indulged in photographs and autographs, confirming the simplicity and availability that she had already demonstrated in the evening during the meeting held in the afternoon in the Piccolo del Politeama, conducted by journalists Anna Trapasso And Victor Piuswho together with Nuviola chatted amiably about timba, jazz, music but also about the political situation in Cuba.

Nuviola also lent herself, upon invitation, to a hint of “ Quando ” by Pino Daniele, leaving everyone speechless. Simply extraordinary.

«The weekend of the Festival dedicated to the great international Jazz continues this evening– said the artistic director Antonietta Santacroce– Thefirst scheduled appointment is at 18 at the Cloister of the San Giovanni monumental complex where there will be the national preview of the project “Chick Corea: a Spanish heart”, a tribute dedicated to the exceptional pianist of Calabrian origins. At 9pm at the Politeama Theater there will be “Mater”,a great event with three world-famous artists such as the legendary Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtuthe Cuban pianist Omar Sosa And Maria Pia De Vitoone of the most versatile and appreciated voices on the Italian musical panorama, who will accompany spectators on a musical journey which, through a fusion of jazz, world music and ethnic influences, ranges from Neapolitan, to Indian and American music”.

The concert will always be preceded in the Piccolo del Politeama, at 7.30 pm, from a meeting with Sosa and De Vito, open to the public.
