Not a simple bouquet of roses or a romantic dinner: to celebrate half a century of life together with his beloved wife Mara, Gennaro Cortese he chose to dedicate his eighth degree to her. At almost 74 years old, the reggino former Telecom manager, he obtained a new academic qualification in Tourism and Entertainment at the Unime department of Cognitive, Psychological, Pedagogical Sciences and Cultural Studies by discussing a thesis on Cunto with professor as supervisor. Dario Tomasello, in which he outlined the figure of the storyteller and storyteller starting from the works of the two famous Sicilian authors Mimmo Cuticchio and Peppino Celano. A passionate story that of Cortese, hungry for knowledge and in love with life. Father of three children – Lorenzo, Raffaella and Andrea – grandfather of six grandchildren and expecting his seventh, Gennaro has always counted on the support of his family, with whom he has shared every happy and less happy moment. Last year he wanted to dedicate his seventh degree to his father Lorenzo, who died very young when he was just 14. The other six degrees were individually dedicated to the grandchildren, an important “cultural legacy which, he said, keeps the memory of their grandfather alive in them even when he is no longer with us”. In 2020 Cortese was awarded the “San Giorgio d’Oro” by the municipal administration of Reggio Calabria, in 2023 he received the National Award for Excellence “Reggio Calabria Day”. He is currently provincial and regional president of the National Association of Officers of the Italian Armed Forces and provincial president of the il Fante fighting association. The seventh grandchild will be born in 5 months and Gennaro is already thinking about the “gift” for him…..the ninth degree!!!!
