Mercure Headquarters, Lakes: “The Government’s position is predictable and inconclusive”

The fuss continues over the latest implications regarding the “Norma Laghi” which plans to extend to the other Calabrian protected areas what was foreseen – a year and a half ago – in the Pollino National Park Plan. Measure approved in the Regional Council, supported by the President of the Council himself, Roberto Occhiuto and now challenged by the Government.

“The position of the Council of Ministers – declared the regional councilor, Ferdinando Laghi – it is not predictive of what may still happen, nor is it definitive. For this reason I invite Sorgenia’s supporters to take a more cautious attitude.”

“This is demonstrated – continues Laghi – by the facts: there are precedents, even recent ones, of laws approved in the Calabrian Regional Council, challenged by the Government and then reinstated, in whole or in part, by the Constitutional Court (think of the one on Fibromyalgia, or the one concerning rental with driver -NCC-, for example).

“In any case, this challenge, however it evolves – continues Laghi – does not modify what is foreseen in the Pollino National Park Plan – which explicitly provides, in the territory of the Pollino Park, biomass power plants with a maximum thermal power of 10 MW, from which the regulation, which I proposed and the Regional Council approved, was extrapolated”.

Laghi thus refers to the declarations of Occhiuto himself who forcefully continues to maintain that “a biomass power plant in the heart of the largest park in Italy cannot exist”.

“Today’s celebration, which I find a little premature and at times excessive – concludes councilor Ferdinando Laghi – certainly makes Sorgenia happy but does not represent a definitive situation, nor, above all, does it reflect the will of the territory which, over the years and still today , has already made his aversion towards the “Mercure Monster” felt.
