Yesterday the deputy minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Edoardo Rixi, visited the Port Authority – Coast Guard Command of Milazzo for an institutional meeting with the military and civilian personnel of the maritime compartment.
He was welcomed by the Commander of the Port Authority of Milazzo, Frigate Captain Alessandro Sarro, and the Maritime Director of Eastern Sicily, Rear Admiral Raffaele Macauda, in the presence of all the personnel on duty.
During the visit, the Honorable Rixi wanted to express his appreciation for the commitment, professionalism and sense of duty that characterize the daily activity of the men and women of the Coast Guard. The Deputy Minister underlined the importance of their work in safeguarding human life at sea, in protecting the marine and coastal environment and in navigation safety, fundamental elements for the safety and growth of the national maritime system.
During his stay at the command, the Deputy Minister also had the opportunity to board a SAR (Search and Rescue) patrol boat, a naval unit intended for maritime rescue. Here he received in-depth information on the operational activities and technical capabilities of the vessel, showing particular interest in the efficiency and promptness with which the Coast Guard intervenes in emergency operations.
The Honorable Rixi also highlighted the complexity and extension of the Maritime Compartment of Milazzo, which extends for almost 200 kilometers of coastline and also includes the entire archipelago of the Aeolian Islands. An area which, for the Deputy Minister, is of strategic importance not only in terms of maritime safety, but also for the development of port and tourist traffic in the Sicilian Region.
The visit ended with a moment of farewell to the staff and with the shared commitment to continue the collaboration between the Ministry and the Coast Guard to guarantee an increasingly safe, efficient and sustainable maritime system.
