The 1st stage of the Waszp class Italia Cup 2026, organized by the Italian Naval League, Messina Section, ended at the Sailing Section of the Navy of Messina. For three days around thirty sailors challenged each other in the waters of the Strait of Messina aboard foil dinghies, giving rise to spectacular and technically demanding tests. The event concluded on Easter Monday with a “long distance” test characterized by crossing the Strait, which attracted numerous spectators along the northern coast.

The safe conduct of the regattas was guaranteed by the Coast Guard, also through the VTS system and the use of patrol boats, and by the support of the Strait Pilots, who assisted the fleet by providing fundamental information on the currents. The contribution of Beppe Tisci, president of the VII FIV Zone, for operational support, and of Fabrizio Travaini, promoter of the Sicilian stage of the competition, was decisive.

Thanks go to Marisuplog Messina for the logistical support and to the Italian Sailing Federation – VII Sicily Zone for the collaboration and to Admiral Marzano, national president of lni.

The President of the Naval League of Messina, Alessandro Billè: “I thank all the institutions and partners involved, the Navy, the Coast Guard, the Pilots of the Strait, the Italian Sailing Federation, the Regatta Committee, the members and volunteers for the commitment and professionalism demonstrated. The success of the event confirms the value of collaboration and represents an important result for the sport and for the territory.”
