Iran has defended its decision to reject the draft 14-point memorandum of understanding with the United States. «Everything we proposed in the text was reasonable and generous. Not only for Iran’s national interests, but for the good and progress of the region and the world. The American parties continue to insist on their unjust demands,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said, quoted by Iranian media.
“We have not claimed any benefits, the only thing we have claimed are Iran’s legitimate rights,” he assured.
Therefore, he explained, “we will fight whenever necessary and whenever we deem it appropriate we will use the weapon of diplomacy to assert the rights of the Iranian people.”
Iran, Baqaei underlined, “participates in diplomatic processes in good faith, while the United States has repeatedly proven to be unreliable” as demonstrated with the withdrawal from the JCPOA agreement in 2018 and the air strikes while negotiations were underway, in June 2025 and again in February this year.
Pezeshkian: “Negotiation possible. If there is an agreement we will respect it”
Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has not closed the door on negotiations with the United States. “The victory achieved by the armed forces on the battlefield must also be completed on a diplomatic level,” he said, as reported by the IRNA agency.
“Despite our distrust of the enemy, we believe it is possible to negotiate from a position of dignity, wisdom and interest,” he explained. And “if an agreement is reached that takes into account the concerns of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution and the interests of the Iranian people, we will be faithful to our commitments”, he assured.
Trump: “I don’t like Iran’s letter. It’s inappropriate”
«I don’t like their letter. It’s inappropriate. I don’t like their response.” This is what American President Donald Trump said in a short phone call with Axios, regarding Iran’s response to the US proposal for a memorandum to end the war. Trump, however, refused to go into detail about the contents of the response itself. The US waited for days for the Iranian response that arrived on Sunday. The White House hoped that Tehran’s positions would show further progress towards an agreement, but Trump’s initial reaction seemed to indicate the exact opposite.
