«The true sign that we can ask Mary this evening is this: that a shared responsibility grows between us, capable of taking responsibility for one another; that civic sense becomes contagious, generating coherent and visible choices; that caring for relationships becomes a daily style, made up of attention, respect and listening.” These are the words of Bishop Alberto Torriani, pronounced yesterday evening, during the closing celebrations of the Feast of the Madonna of Capocolonna.
The sacred effigy of Mary, after the pilgrimage that took her to the sacred promontory on the night between Saturday and Sunday, returned to the city yesterday afternoon on foot, as per the Septennial tradition. And the bishop wanted to insist on the number seven, who found himself experiencing his first real celebration of the patron saint of Crotone, in the most important moment, on the occasion of the big celebration. «Seven is a number that returns – the bishop said –. It returns in the life, in the traditions, in the memory of the people. It’s as if the world itself had been “thought” with this rhythm inside. There are seven days that give shape to time (the week), which transform the succession of moments into a habitable story. Without this rhythm, time would just be a meaningless race; with this rhythm, it becomes a home.” A sea of people accompanied the sacred effigy of Maria di Capocolonna on its journey.
