«Justice has not come to us. They tell us that we have to wait for the repentants, but we want more, we don’t want the repentants, we still want to believe in justice.” It was a cry for justice that was launched this morning, during the commemoration for the 35th anniversary of the killing of Francesco Tramonte and Pasquale Cristiano, the two street cleaners murdered by the ‘Ndrangheta in Lamezia Terme, by Tramonte’s daughter, Stefania.
The memory of Angela Vallone, an example of dignity and legality
In taking the floor, Stefania wanted to dedicate the initiative to her mother, Angela Vallone, who recently passed away. A woman who, widowed at a very young age, had to look after her three orphaned daughters who were too young to understand the dynamic into which their family, against their will, had entered.
A woman, said Stefania speaking of her mother, «who was capable in her simplicity of carrying forward us three daughters with an education and respecting all the rules and it was not easy to find ourselves in a situation like ours».
The institutions: «Giving a daily sign of belonging to the State»
The mayor, Mario Murone, also brought greetings from the city which, even today, still has the memory of that tragic morning of May 24, 1991 when the two were murdered by the ‘Ndrangheta. He spoke of «moments that must make us reflect and that must bring us back to remembering what happened so that this doesn’t happen again and at the same time it must also be a proactive moment that gives us the idea of what needs to be done to prevent what happened from happening again. We must behave in such a way as to give a daily sign of belonging to the State and a sign of distance from deplorable phenomena such as those that have occurred.”
The appeal for the future: transforming pain into rebirth
Words which were echoed by councilor Annalisa Spinelli who, among other things, urged everyone to ensure that “behind these sad, tragic disappearances there is, however, a rebirth”.
