After the carefree times in which they were classmates at the Valli classical high school, the mayor Melangela Scolaro and the president of the city council Raffaella Campo find themselves side by side holding two of the highest institutional positions in the city. Deputy mayor Ilenia Torre completes the trio: «This happens in very few municipalities – underlined the first citizen – less than 2 percent in Italy. The presence of women in local and national institutions still remains insufficient and far from full representation. It is necessary to promote greater participation and gender balance. Our city, in this sense, is and will be a political laboratory.” At the same time, the mayor defined Raffaella Campo as “a figure who guarantees honesty, correctness and integrity. The right person in the right place. Raffaella’s choice was transversal. My hope is that a political season made of empathy and dynamism in a climate of collaboration can be inaugurated. The opposition is welcome, but not political feuds”. Scolaro concluded by underlining the importance of the city council: «I was proudly part of it for 11 years. It is the body par excellence in which the democratic life of the city takes place and represents the political training ground of knowledge and skills for all future administrators. Good luck also to vice president Giorgio Catalfamo.”
