The judicial accounting case linked to the management of the sports facilities in the Varco area ends with an acquittal for the former mayor of Cariati and current regional councilor Filomena Greco. The Jurisdictional Section for Calabria of the Court of Auditors has in fact accepted the defence’s objections, rejecting the accusations of alleged fiscal damage formulated by the Accounting Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation into the alleged damage to the treasury
At the center of the proceedings was an alleged chasm in public accounts for a total amount of 269,607.13 euros, contested by the Prosecutor’s Office to various municipal administrations that followed one another over time. The accusation concerned the alleged failure to use, manage and safeguard the municipal sports facilities built with public funds in the Cariati area.
The decision of the accounting judges
The Court of Auditors accepted the objection of nullity presented by the lawyer Alfredo Gualtieri (of the Court of Catanzaro) in the interests of Filomena Greco and the former councilors Antonio Arcuri, Paola Apa, Ines Scalioti and Rosaria Bianco. The exception was also partially extended to the defendants Fiorenzo Bevacqua, Maria Elena Ciccopiedi and Sergio Salvati.
The sentences for the subsequent administration
The accounting judges instead accepted, albeit partially, the Prosecutor’s request against other directors. In fact, the sentence provides for the following compensation sentences (in addition to interest, monetary revaluation and court costs):
Cataldo Minò: sentenced to pay 17,556.50 euros
Francesco Cicciù: sentenced to pay 5,852.17 euros
Maria Crescente: sentenced to pay 5,852.17 euros
