The Environment Department of the Municipality of Vibo Valentia informs that, following investigations conducted by the local police and the sector offices, the offender responsible for the illegal abandonment of waste in via Machiavelli, in the city centre, where in recent days a real illegal landfill had formed, has been identified.
The identification occurred thanks to the cross-referencing of the information collected on site and the checks carried out according to the established procedures. For the individual identified, the administrative sanction provided for by current legislation on environmental protection and waste management was increased. At the same time, the Muraca company, in charge of the service, intervened promptly by providing for the complete clearing of the area and the restoration of the urban decor, removing all abandoned materials and returning the road to conditions of full usability. The administration therefore continues its work of monitoring the territory against urban degradation, with an activity aimed at combating environmental crimes. The checks continue throughout the territory, particularly in some sensitive areas such as via Froggio, via Morante, the Cancello Rosso district, via Protettì and the seaside hamlets. Finally, we would like to remind you that the law provides for a criminal fine ranging from 1,500 euros to 18,000 euros, a figure which doubles in the case of abandoning hazardous waste.
