The first rifts between the majority and the opposition in the city council are taking place on the report at the beginning of the mandate of Mayor Basile and, above all, on the new service contract of the Messina Social City. Two different fronts, identical result: high political tension in Palazzo Zanca, where the electoral campaign climate, thanks to the perennial feeling of “temporaryness” that is experienced within the corridors of the Municipality – also and above all due to the electoral appeals that will be discussed in October -, seems not to have faded with the closing of the polls.
The greatest tensions occurred in the last two city council sessions, that of Tuesday afternoon and that of yesterday, which lasted until late in the evening, dedicated to the examination of the Messina Social City service contract. For two days, after the doubts raised several times – and in writing – by Marcello Scurria, there was a discussion on whether or not an auditor’s opinion on the resolution was mandatory. After some heavy “reprimands” by the general secretary Rossana Carrubba addressed both to the managers of the Municipality and above all to the auditors themselves, the latter, in the end, clarified and put in the minutes that they were not obliged to issue an opinion. A thesis that did not convince either Scurria or the rest of the opposition, which twice asked to submit the resolution (which entrusts the “package” of social services to the Social City for three years, for a total of over 53 million euros) to the board of auditors for examination, and twice it failed, with the South-call-North majority compact.
