Five victories, two second places and seven podiums in seven races: Salvatore Francesco Mondino wins the Italian RS Turbo title in the 2026 Italian SuperSalita Championship. For the driver from Luzzi, it is the fourth tricolor of his career, obtained at the wheel of the SEAT Leon Cupra RSTB 2.0 fielded by GT Racing.

The verdict came at the Nissena Cup, the last event of the season. Mondino arrived with a margin of classification that allowed him to manage the advantage, but he finished with a group victory and a new course record.

The new Leon Cupra and redemption after 2025

At Nissena the main objective was to avoid unnecessary risks and get the car to the finish line. Even with a more cautious approach, the rider from Cosenza left his mark, completing a championship in which he never dropped below second place.

2026 marked the beginning of the collaboration with GT Racing and the transition to the SEAT Leon Cupra RSTB 2.0, a car profoundly different from those used in previous seasons. Mondino quickly found the feeling with the car, occupying the top positions in the category right from the first events.

The work on the set-up and the growing knowledge of the car accompanied the results, allowing the Calabrian driver to build the decisive margin in the Italian classification. A redemption after a 2025 that was more complicated than expected, achieved through a new technical project and continuity of placings.

Four Italian titles from 2022 to today

Mondino’s first Italian title dates back to 2022, in the Racing Start 1400, at the wheel of the Peugeot 106 Rallye. In 2023 there was an encore in the same category, while in 2024 the move to Racing Start Turbo led to the conquest of the RSTB 1.6 title on the Mini Cooper S.

Now the fourth tricolour, in the RS Turbo with the Leon Cupra RSTB 2.0: a palmarès built with different cars and categories. For the driver from Luzzi, who started racing karts at seven years old, success in the 2026 SuperSalita adds another title to a journey that began as a child.
