Establish a regional fund for municipal after-school care. This is proposed by the deputy of Controcorrente at the Ars, Alessandro De Leo, through the amendment to the bill “Provisions for cohesion and growth”, to be foreseen for the three-year period 2026-2028. The objective is to support the most fragile families, who suffer from economic hardship, to promote equality in access to educational and teaching opportunities. A “piggy bank” (7 million annual expenditure expected), established within the Regional Department of Education and Professional Training, intended for the financing of after-school projects aimed at primary school students residing in Sicily. Measures aimed primarily at students belonging to families with ISEE not exceeding 10 thousand euros.

The amendment to the Region’s budget proposed by De Leo is part of a “package” of new measures that the Controcorrente group, led by Ismaele La Vardera, will advance in these days on the basis of the initiative “The finance I would like” through which the movement took to the streets of the Sicilian capitals to collect concrete proposals directly from citizens to be included in the economic law.
In Messina, the Controcorrente stand, set up in Piazza Cairoli, the heart of the urban centre, was taken by storm, registering a boom in attendance. The citizens had the opportunity to meet with MP De Leo and all the other activists of the movement to deposit their proposal for the Region’s financial law in the appropriate ballot box. Not just ideas but also problems to be solved: from school to healthcare, from transport to the high cost of fuel, to the world of work.
