A study would prove the Syracusan origin of the Riace Bronzes, according to a research group coordinated by Anselmo Madeddu, an expert in Greek history and bronzes, and Rosolino Cirrincione, director of the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Catania, and composed of a team from the University of Catania and the University of Ferrara.
The researchers compared the geochemical characteristics of the soils found in the welds with those of different samples taken in a specific area of the Syracuse territory, finding a surprising correspondence of values.
The welds are indicative of the final location of the Bronzes, whose pieces, at the time of their creation, were welded where they were exhibited. The results of the study will be illustrated by the researchers next Thursday, at 11, at the Parco delle Fontane hotel, in Syracuse.
