Some responsibilities regarding administrative police are changing: from today the Municipalities will deal with this directly.
The news comes after the publication in the Official Journal of Legislative Decree 12 September 2025, n. 138, which applies the special Statute of the Sicilian Region and establishes the transfer to the Municipalities of some functions hitherto managed by the public security offices, as provided for by articles 68 and 69 of the Consolidated Law on Public Security Laws of 1931.
In Messina, the mayor Federico Basile, after a discussion with the Police Headquarters and with his own council, decided that these new activities will be managed by the Municipal Police Force. The Commander of the Municipal Police will be directly responsible for the procedures, based on the delegation received from the Administration.
For citizens and businesses, the methods of submitting applications do not change: the requests must be forwarded through the SUAP – Impresainungiorno desk, which will handle the paperwork to the Municipal Police Headquarters.
The objective, explains the Municipality, is to make the service more efficient, transparent and closer to citizens, ensuring continuity and clarity in the management of authorizations and controls.
«We are working to ensure an orderly transition and in full compliance with the law – declared Mayor Basile -. It is an important step to strengthen the role of Municipalities and improve the quality of services offered to our community.”
