Alarm returned to Villa San Giovanni after hours of apprehension linked to the Hantavirus case. The tests on Federico Amaretti, the seafarer who had traveled on the same flight as a woman who later died, came back negative.

“Much calmer situation”

“Fortunately everything has returned. Today Villa San Giovanni is experiencing a much more peaceful situation”, declared the mayor Giusy Caminiti, explaining that the results of the analyzes arrived early thanks to the intervention of the Nas carabinieri.

“Already yesterday at 4pm the test tubes had been delivered to Spallanzani. This morning the results were delivered to Amaretti”, he added, underlining how in the previous hours a climate of strong concern had spread in the city.

The conditions of the seafarer

Amaretti, confirmed the mayor, “continues to feel well, he has no fever or flu symptoms”. The young man is observing the 45-day quarantine starting May 9 and is spending his time in isolation, maintaining contact with friends and family via the web.

“He preferred not to be contacted. He told me: ‘I feel more calm like this'”, reported Caminiti, highlighting how, due to his work as a seafarer, he is already used to long periods of isolation.

Emergency management

The mayor also recalled how the administration immediately tried to downplay the news, avoiding alarmism among the population: “Yesterday panic spread and some feared scenarios similar to those of Codogno during Covid, but we reassured the citizens”.

“He is a prudent boy from a good family. At this moment he has chosen to maintain confidentiality, despite numerous requests from the media”, concluded Caminiti.
