The first stage of the Proxy Tour, held on Friday 31 July in Piazza Rosa dei Venti in Marina di Sibari, ended with an extraordinary and unanimous success. An event that exceeded all expectations, recording a conspicuous and warm participation of citizens, families and visitors, who were won over by the beauty, simplicity and uniqueness of the activities proposed.
The initiative was carried out within the SU.PR.EME program. 2 – Interventions to prevent and combat undeclared work and the phenomenon of gangmasteringsupported by the Calabria Region and financed by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (FAMI) 2021-202, aimed at promoting inclusion and strengthening social ties in the area.
The event was born with the aim of bringing the Proxy Center of Lauropoli – the first and only center for women present in the Municipality of Cassano all’Ionio, inaugurated last March 8th by CIDIS Impresa Sociale ETS – outside its walls. The initiative was able to fully embody the mission shared by the Center and CIDIS: building community, encouraging the creation of an inclusive social network, united and firmly founded on the values of equality and inclusion.
The square has been transformed into a lively and welcoming open-air laboratory, animated by various empowerment-themed proposals, aimed not only at women, but also extended to children and the entire community. The little ones were the great protagonists of the stand dedicated to them, who were able to paint their dreams and passions on canvas, then taking the created work with them. Adults and children also experienced a moment of profound emotional connection in the interior self-portrait corner, where children, mothers and fathers got involved, giving life to their own internal representation.
Great involvement was recorded around the empowerment activities, each characterized by a specific feature call to action aimed at the public: from the message jar, which invited people to fish for a thought and write a new one to insert, to the mirror of empowerment, guided by the message “Look at yourself as you would look at someone you love. Write down what you need to hear. Stick it on the mirror or carry it with you”covered by the many post-it notes left by the participants. To complete the journey, the deck with superpower cards, designed to describe and enhance the resources that every woman holds within herself.
The event was also characterized by a strong attention to environmental sustainability, thanks to the Swap Party, a solidarity barter market that generated great interest around its ethical and ecological value.
At the CIDIS information stand, event participants were able to learn more about the activities promoted by the organization and the Proxy Centre. The space also hosted a very welcome culinary corner dedicated to intercultural hospitality, where Moroccan tea and typical dried pastries were offered, capable of conquering everyone for their extraordinary goodness and flakiness.
Completing the setting of the evening was the stand dedicated to craftsmanship: thanks to the contribution of Cinzia Belmonte and Lucia D’Amelio, unique artistic innovations of their kind were presented to the public, such as refined necklaces and elegant floral compositions created through the creative reuse of coffee pods.
The Councilor for Equal Opportunities and Welfare, Rosa De Franco, spoke on behalf of the entire Municipal Administration of Cassano all’Ionio and said she was particularly happy with the activities carried out, the spirit of initiative and the tangible desire to create a community demonstrated in the field.
The great enthusiasm recorded and the strong appreciation expressed by citizens confirm the value of this itinerant route. The Proxy Tour will return soon with new stages and events in the area: we invite the whole community to stay tuned to the official channels to discover the next meetings, all strictly open to the public and with free access.
