The soldiers of the Carabinieri Forestry Unit of Cetraro have seized an area of 2000 square meters in the “Marinella” area of Cetraro. During a targeted service to repress environmental crimes, the presence of a large quantity of dangerous and non-hazardous waste was ascertained on private land, mixed together and lying on natural soil which gave it the characteristics of an illegal landfill.
In particular, 25 m3 were found in the area. of special non-hazardous waste from building demolition; waste of various kinds such as metal nets and pieces of iron, plastic and glass, end-of-life tyres, woody material of various kinds, wooden platforms and five cars in a state of abandonment and covered by vegetation on which waste of various kinds had accumulated. Following the investigation, the owner of the land, a man from Cetraro, was referred to the Paola Prosecutor’s Office for the crime of “illegal landfill” and the consequent seizure of the area.
