This morning, February 5, the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Cosenza notified Giuseppe Scornaienchi, already detained, of a new precautionary custody order in prison issued by the GIP of the Court of Catanzaro.
The provision, requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Catanzaro – District Anti-Mafia Directorate, charges the suspect with the crimes of possession of a clandestine common firearm, receiving stolen goods and possession of narcotic substances for the purpose of dealing.
The searches carried out a month ago: 70 thousand euros in cash, guns and almost a kilo of drugs
The ordinance originates from the results of the searches carried out on 8 January, the day on which the Carabinieri put an end to Scornaienchi’s fugitive status. Inside a rural house in Cetraro, where the man had been tracked down, the police found over 70 thousand euros in cash, three pistols with abraded serial number, numerous ammunition, mobile phones, material for misrepresentation, as well as narcotic substances: over 360 grams of marijuana and more than 500 grams of cocaine.
In light of the seized material, the District Judicial Authority deemed there to be serious indications of guilt also in relation to the illicit possession of weapons and drugs, as well as the alleged illicit origin of the large sum of money found.
For these reasons, the investigating judge has ordered, with the provision carried out today, the preventive seizure aimed at confiscating the assets. The accusatory hypotheses, as required by law, are currently being examined in the preliminary investigation phase and will have to be verified in cross-examination with the defense during the subsequent procedural process.
