A citizen has decided to make public with an open letter, distributed to the press, his recent experience at the Locri Hospital, with the intention – as he himself specifies – of contributing in a civil and constructive way to the improvement of health services and the protection of the right to health.
The story concerns the hospitalization of a family member in the Neurology department. The patient needed an MRI of the brain, a fundamental and non-deferrable diagnostic test. It is in this circumstance that – according to the testimony – a significant organizational criticality emerged: the absence of an internal path that allows bedridden patients to reach Radiology.
The citizen underlines that patients who are ambulatory or transportable in wheelchairs can access the MRI through the internal corridors of the hospital. However, the situation is different for those who are bedridden and can only be moved on a stretcher or directly into the hospital bed.
In these cases – he explains – there would be no adequate internal connection. The result is that transport to Radiology must take place by ambulance, as if it were an external transfer.
