The Court of Appeal of Catanzaro confirmed the five-month prison sentence for injuries for Antonio Glorioso, the street trader who had attacked one of his colleagues during the local market in the Lido district in 2023. The judges also sent the documents back to the judge of first instance limited to the charge relating to the unjustified carrying of a pocketknife. The man will also have to pay the legal costs and compensate the victim of the attack for damages, who has filed a civil action with the lawyer Francesco Gigliotti.
The facts date back to the morning of November 2, 2023. According to what has been reconstructed, the two men, previously linked by working relationships, started arguing shortly after the opening of the traditional market in the Lido district. Soon, however, words would become deeds. The suspect allegedly grabbed a blade and hit his colleague under the right armpit. The injured man was immediately rescued and transferred to the emergency room of the Pugliese hospital. Here he was subjected to some tests and treated. According to what is reported in the indictment, the 59-year-old would have launched a first blow at shoulder height which would have failed and “immediately after another stab with which he would have stabbed him in the left side thus causing injuries that could be healed in ten days”. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, they were “acts suitable and aimed at causing death, an event which did not occur due to causes beyond his control and in particular due to the intervention of the people who blocked him and removed him”. While the injured man was being treated, the perpetrator of the attack was identified by police officers and taken to the Lido police station. He was then arrested on charges of attempted murder aggravated by frivolous motives. He would then be found in possession of a 14 centimeter Swiss army knife and a pair of twenty centimeter long scissors. The alleged crime was already reclassified in the first degree as injury.
