Medvedev also risked being knocked out when he committed a double fault in the decisive game of the fourth set, allowing the German to be two points away from his first final in Melbourne. It is the second time since the start of the tournament that the 27-year-old Muscovite has come back from two sets down, after the victory in the second round against the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 3-6, 6-7 (1 /7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/1), 6-0.
