Baby remained in the womb for too long: Messina gynecologist convicted

The single judge of Messina Monica Marino sentenced the gynecologist Giovanni Cocivera to one year and six months accused of having given birth to a child who, according to the investigators, suffered health problems due to the birth. However, the woman’s trusted gynecologist and the midwife were acquitted. The story at the center of the trial dates back to February 3, 2017.

The young mother, in the forty-first week of pregnancy, noticed her water breaking and rushed to the hospital. Here she waited to give birth until 5pm and beyond. A natural birth, but there’s something wrong with the baby. The diagnosis came three days later: hypertonic syndrome, encephalopathy and ischemia.
