Mourning in the world of basketball: he died of a thrombosis at just 24 years old Samuel Dilas, center forward of Lumezzane, a team from Bresciano that plays in Serie B. The club itself made this known, after he had been hospitalized in intensive care at the Civile hospital in Brescia since Friday. His teammates had been exempted from the fourth day’s match, scheduled in Padua, to stay at Dilas’s bedside together with the coach Fabio Saputo and to the president Flavio Bonomi.
Two meters and 6 centimeters tall, the ‘gentle giant’ from Novellara, in the Reggio Emilia area, had felt ill on Friday evening due to pain in his right leg which then spread to other parts of his body. The worsening condition came just hours after he was released from a two-week stay in hospital for pneumonia. The 24-year-old was immediately operated on but it seems that some blood clots had formed in several parts of his body and he had entered a coma.
Dilas, who arrived at Virtus Lumezzane last season, had made a great contribution to the salvation of a team that this year is aiming for promotion to A2. Furthermore, the pivot had already made his debut in the ranks of Forlì in A2.
