“Yesterday the Regional Council approved the bill to my first signature, signed together with colleagues Gentile, Talarico and Muraca, which officially establishes the network of the villages of Calabria. An important step that recognizes in small municipalities not only a historical, cultural and landscape heritage to be protected, but also a strategic lever for a new model of sustainable development of our region”. The M5S group leader in the regional council said it in a note, Davide Tavernise.
“The Calabrian villages – continued Tavernise – are unique places, often forgotten, but rich in history, traditions, identity and beauty. With this law we wanted to say that the future of Calabria can and must also pass through these territories: relaunching them, promoting them and putting them in the conditions of attracting quality tourism, investments and innovative planning”.
According to Tavernise “it is not a simple celebratory measure, but a concrete tool to reverse the trend of depopulation, encourage residency, encourage the local economy and strengthen the attractiveness of slow, authentic and sustainable tourism. A tourism that today, even at national and international level, is increasingly requested and valued”.
“The network of the villages – concluded Tavernise – has the ambition to become a virtuous model, capable of putting experiences, sharing resources, supporting the digitization of services, enhancement of food and wine and crafts, the planning of cultural events and the integrated promotion of the territory.
I now ask forcefully that this law is not left in a drawer. The laws, alone, do not change reality if they are not applied with courage and timeliness. We need a clear implementation plan, dedicated resources and a transversal political commitment so that our villages are not only celebrated in speeches, but become real protagonists of Calabrian development. For Calabria this is a historical occasion. We cannot afford to lose it. “
