After the episodes of violence recorded in the last few hours in Cosenza – from the big brawl on Viale Parco to the attack that took place in Piazza Loreto – comes the firm stance of the regional secretary of the Calabria Independent Carabinieri Union (SIC), Amedeo Di Tillo, who invites the institutions to take immediate and coordinated action to address the growing climate of tension in the city.
«The presence of young people involved in episodes of aggression and gratuitous violence – underlines Di Tillo – is a wake-up call that must question not only the institutions, but the entire community. Social hardship, lack of educational references, precariousness and disillusionment fuel situations of degradation and loss of fundamental values, such as respect for life and others.”
The representative of the SIC requests the urgent establishment of a permanent technical table involving the Municipality of Cosenza, the Prefecture, the police, educational institutions and social realities of the territory, with the aim of analyzing the causes of the phenomenon and identifying effective prevention and control strategies.
An important step, according to Di Tillo, also concerns the role of sport, to be considered a “fundamental tool for growth, inclusion and discipline”. Promoting sports practice among young people – he explains – “means offering them a healthy and constructive alternative, capable of transmitting values such as respect for the rules, solidarity and teamwork”.
Finally, the secretary of the SIC Calabria underlines the need to “strengthen the presence of law enforcement in the most sensitive areas”, but also to promote educational, cultural and sporting interventions to recover the sense of community, legality and civic responsibility among young people.
«Only through a collective commitment and active collaboration between citizens and institutions – concludes Di Tillo – will it be possible to restore to Cosenza the climate of serenity and security it deserves».
