Calabria, tough political clash on differentiated autonomy

There is no rift, but there is an official position. Roberto Occhiuto chooses the Forza Italia National Council to adopt a less ambiguous line on the issue of differentiated autonomy after the controversy that followed the approval of the law and the criticism suffered by the opposition in the Regional Council. “I reiterate my doubts – were the words used by the Calabrian governor in front of the blue parliament – on the ways and times of the approval of the law on differentiated autonomy. The Calderoli bill, unfortunately, has reached the final green light of the Chambers without at the same time reaching the goal of overcoming the historical expenditure. I hope that Forza Italia, as our leader Antonio Tajani has always said, puts the overcoming of territorial differences at the center of its action, definitively shelving the historical expenditure in favor of standard needs”, argued Occhiuto. “My hope – he continued, always according to what we learn – is that Forza Italia will not vote in the Council of Ministers and in Parliament on any agreement with individual Regions if the Lep are not fully funded first, and if there is not the mathematical certainty that certain agreements could cause damage to the South”.
This is an attitude aimed above all at marking a line of demarcation not only within the party but, above all, towards the allies and in particular the League which with the Venetian president Luca Zaia has already advanced a request to obtain greater freedom of action on some matters. At the same time, Occhiuto’s intervention seems to close the door to any request from the center-left on adhesion to the request for a referendum to repeal the reform and to the presentation of an appeal to the Constitutional Court against the law approved by Parliament.
