«Reggio Calabria, the tip of a political iceberg of corruption that has affected almost all of Calabria and the nation. It is not a question of criminal implications, the problem is moral! Can a candidate, who should represent the people, be in collusion with crime and ask for its support? Certainly not. But the investigations – accuses the regional commissioner of the League Giacomo Saccomanno – demonstrate that elections are often won thanks to the support of the ‘ndrangheta! This is the crucial point: the ethics of politics that have disappeared. There is only so much arrogance, bullying, mediocrity and personal interests. There is no overall vision to make a region grow. This is the endemic evil of almost all of the current and past ruling classes. It is shocking how they only discuss the placement in this or that miserable position, instead of using the best human resources to rewrite the history of our territory. And then there is the need to ask for support from those who can control packages of votes and about 20-30% of popular consensus. This is the story that cannot be denied. And true politics cannot avoid a strong reflection: can we change, can we bring the discussion back to high levels, can we rewrite our history and our future? It is difficult, but to succeed we must be honest. The Reggio affair shows that civil conscience has disappeared: in the face of possible conditioning of the elections, the parties should have intervened drastically. Instead, absolute silence! No words of comfort or defense of Nino Minicuci who has been damaged by the events and who, if the hypotheses of crime were to be confirmed, is to be considered an injured party. And if this were to happen, the League will be at his side, not being able to tolerate situations of this kind that lead to the death of democracy. Many do not understand that easy consensus can satisfy in the short term, but in the long run it is a drug that kills».
