The Holy Mass with Calabrian journalists took place at the sanctuary of San Francesco in Paola, on the occasion of the feast of San Francesco de Sales. The celebration was promoted by the Order of Journalists of Calabria together with the Press Clubs of Cosenza, the Tyrrhenian and the Pollino-Sibaritide, led respectively by Franco Rosito, Luciano Conte and Mario Alvaro, with the collaboration of the Sanctuary.

The liturgy was presided over by Msgr. Francesco Savino, bishop of Cassano all’Ionio and vice-president of the CEI for southern Italy. Present, among others, were the mayor of Paola Roberto Perrotta, the prosecutor of the Republic of Paola Domenico Fiordalisi, the military authorities and the president of the Order of Journalists of Calabria Giuseppe Soluri.

The celebration

The celebration was opened by the greeting of the provincial corrector, Father Antonio Bottino, while the Mass was concelebrated by the provincial vicar, Father Domenico Crupi.

The bishop’s reflection

During the meditation, Msgr. Savino underlined how journalists are called to be “organic to the truth”, recalling the value of adherence to the facts. A passage of the reflection was also dedicated to those who have no voice and experience situations of injustice.

Addressing the institutions and the numerous faithful present in the basilica, the bishop of Cassano highlighted the theme of “co-responsibility” and, commenting on the Gospel on Word Sunday, proposed a reflection on the meaning of “conversion”, also understood as a change of mentality, indicated as a path that concerns the entire region.
